Kevin L. Murphy
Hard work, a great courtroom track record, and respect is what clients get from Kevin Murphy, one of the founding partners of Murphy Landen Jones PLLC.
From the client's first phone call to the firm, Kevin is committed to the case. Not only will he answer your call, but you will receive Kevin’s complete attention and interest in what is happening with your family and business. Kevin is focused on reaching reasonable solutions for his clients that provide the best possible outcome.
Kevin’s expert preparation is what leads him to victory in the legal arena.
“Golf matches aren’t won on the golf course, they’re won on the range and at practice. The same is true in litigation,” he said. “This is a tough job, it requires a lot of time and energy, and you have to go the extra mile to prevail. Some of our biggest victories were against large law firms, who overstaff and underperform.”
As a college student, Kevin was pulled over by campus police and wrongfully issued a ticket. Rather than silently pay the fine and move on, Kevin got creative. He bartered a car wash and wax for an hour of legal advice with a local lawyer. Kevin then took this advice, put on the only suit he owned, and went to court to defend himself. His argument, exhibits, and cross-examination not only won the case, but impressed the judge.
It was this battle over a little traffic ticket that lit a flame in Kevin and spurred his legal career.
“In litigation, you're always thrown some curveballs. There are always situations that come up in trial where you've got to be very nimble on your feet,” Kevin said. “You have got to be flexible, and you have got to be quick.”
Kevin first began working at the ripe age of six years old as a child actor. By his teenage years, Kevin was working at an Italian deli in New York where he stocked shelves during the day and waited on the likes of young John Gotti and Henry Hill Jr. after hours during poker games.
Kevin’s sense of determination and grit was evident from the beginning of his journey. He put himself through law school by being a full-time student during the day, working a full-time job as a truck driver at night, and taking on the occasional game of poker.
“It was a rough road … but I had my faith and a plan, and I was not afraid to work hard,” he said.
Kevin grew up surrounded by Christianity and his faith remains his guiding light today.
“As I've grown older, I have recognized that I have been given a great opportunity to seek justice not only to small and mid-sized business owners, but also to give a voice to individuals that do not have one,” he said.
Community service is valuable to Kevin. When he isn't working a case, Kevin can be found committing his time as a board member to the Northern Kentucky Convention Center and the Matthew Mangine Jr. Foundation. For two decades, Kevin sat on the board of the Children’s Law Center, which provides free legal advice to abused, neglected, and handicapped children.
“I believe it’s important to serve others, this comes from my faith in Christ,” Kevin said.
For Kevin, his greatest life accomplishment isn’t a particular case, but rather his two “smart, funny, independent, strong” daughters who taught him to appreciate the beauty in the little things in life, and his grandson, who he vows to make him a baseball fan.
In addition to being a litigator, Kevin has additional skills to help clients achieve their goals at the most cost-effective price point. He excels in liability assessment and can help clients determine if reaching a settlement is in their best interest. He also serves as a mediator and can use those skills in litigation to assess a cost-effective way to a resolution before you incur substantial legal expenses.
Many cases never make it to trial yet rack up thousands of dollars in legal fees, but Kevin aims to break this pattern by offering settlement counsel and mediation services in addition to his decades of experience as a litigator.
